In Junior League, we have to attend 2 'trainings' per year. Sometimes they are part of a general meeting, thus, dual credit. Other times, you have to go somewhere else, on your own time, to get the 'training'. The training I decided to go to was the Lecture Series- featuring Sally Ride. She was the first woman in space. She shared some awesome pictures and some very interesting facts (and opinions). She was a great speaker. Anyone who can interject a funny story or 2 every 5 minutes has my attention.
Some interesting things that I learned:
*The astronauts all like to take sunset/sunrise pictures. And they all look the same.
*When you are up in space, a sunrise takes place every 90 minutes, so they have lots of opportunities to catch 'the right one'.
*The astronauts can see the lights of Houston, New York and the smog of LA from outer space.
*For NASA to find the first group of women astronauts, they placed newspaper ads in a select group of college newspapers.
